Paper straws, also known as drinking straws, are a commonly used product that can be found in most restaurants, bars and grocery stores around the world. However, few people wonder where these popular products come from.

Paper straws: The fascinating history of a popular food accessory

The history of paper straws dates back to the early 19th century, when the first straws were made of hand-rolled paper. However, they were not yet drinking straws, but rather tubes that were used for eating. They were about 20 centimeters long and were used in monastic hospitals to avoid transmitting diseases by drinking water from one glass.

słomka papierowa In the 1860s, straws began to appear in cafes and restaurants in Europe, and soon in the United States. However, at that time they were still made of paper, which was not very durable and lost its form when saturated with liquid.

In 1888, Marvin Stone, an American inventor and writer, developed the first paper straw, which was made of durable paper coated with wax so that it did not lose its shape when immersed in a liquid. Stone was dissatisfied with the traditional sugar cane straws that were popular at the time because they tended to fall apart when drinking cocktails.

The first paper straws were sold in 1888 under the name "Stone Straw". Their popularity quickly grew, and paper straws became a standard product in the restaurant and bar industry. As the product became popular, different versions of straws were created, such as straws with a flexible end, in colors and patterns, and even ecological straws made of biodegradable materials.

Even though paper straws are a relatively new invention, they have certainly become an integral part of our culture and lifestyle. They are widely used not only in the food industry, but also in medicine, art and the cosmetics industry.

Instructions for making a piper from paper straw

A straw squeaker is one of the simplest toys that can be made at home from easily available materials. It is also a great opportunity to involve children in playing together and have a good time in a creative way. In this article, we will show you step by step how to make a straw squeaker.

Step 1: Prepare the materials

To make a squeaker you only need a straw and scissors. You can use any straw length, but we recommend that it does not exceed 15 cm in length.

Step 2: Trim the straw

Start by cutting one end of the straw at an angle. Then cut the other end at an angle so that it is longer than the first end. This will create an uneven surface inside the straw that will allow sound to be produced.

Step 3: Produce sound

To make a sound, tighten your lips around the short end of the straw and blow air. You should hear the sound of a pipe! You can adjust the pitch by changing the lip tension.

Step 4: Experiment with sound

Now that you know how to make a straw pipe, it's time to experiment with the sound. You can try different straw lengths and cut angles to get different sounds. You can also experiment with different ways of blowing to change the pitch of the sound.
